Librio Philanthropy

When we set up Librio, we unanimously agreed that we wanted to build a company which not only gives joy to the children and adults who receive our books, but also gives something back to society to help those in need.

We also wanted to do more than “just” donate money to a charity of our choice.

So we looked at how we could use our products to make the biggest possible contribution to society.

The more we looked, the more we realised that the products we were making - personalised books - are actually a field of research in themselves and have been proven to have a positive impact in engaging children with books. This excited us greatly and led us to forge relationships with charities supporting literacy in the country where the Librio book is bought.

Our initial goal is to support these charities in carrying out their amazing work encouraging children to develop a love of books, which in turn has a direct impact on their success in later life.

Our secondary goal is to fund extensive large-scale research into how personalisation can help encourage children and adults to engage more with books, leading to better academic achievement and improving society as a whole.

You can read more about literacy issues in the UK, US and Australia on our blog.

We currently work with the following charities in English speaking countries:

UK - National Literacy Trust. For every book sold in the UK, we donate £1. This is also our “default” charity. If we do not have a charity in your country yet, it will go here. This is because National Literacy Trust not only supports literacy in the UK, they also carry out their own research into literacy, which can have impacts for nations all over the world.

AU - Australian LIteracy and Numeracy Foundation. For every book sold in Australia, we donate AU$1.50. The Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation (ALNF), established in 1999, is a registered national charity dedicated to raising language, literacy and numeracy standards in Australia. ALNF raises funds to develop, implement and sustain innovative programs with proven, tangible results, working across the nation.
